Here's the fabulous BG! I got to the very end of its reconstruction and had one tiny section I had to digitally hand paint, as it was never revealed in the scene. This always stretches my abilities (I'm not really an artist) but on completion I think I matched it pretty darn well! There's a slight pan to the right so you never saw this complete BG on the screen - until now!

A phone call today sent me to THE JUNGLE BOOK DVD to answer a question… and I fell in love with this movie all over again, including the BG art. More to come!

Now, for the first time, you can see the entire pan BG revealed. Gorgeous textures!

JUNGLE BOOK... another look...

A few weeks ago I posted the JUNGLE BOOK background below.

Tonight, I realized after Baloo smashes through the doorway, we get an expanded view not only through the opened doorway, but also a significant pan to the left. (The door is obviously an animated cel overlay.)

Here's the terrific new digitally re-assembled result!

I was without internet service for several days, and my laptop imploded. Geez!

So, with my laptop in the shop, and no internet, I had plenty of time to sit with my desktop computer, and digitally re-assemble some background art. I never get tired of Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK. Here are five "new" B/G pieces.

Finally, today (with a different service provider) I once again have digital internet access. Yay!

Yep, you read it right. With all the brutishly cold weather many of us are experiencing (including those of us in L.A.), I thought a respite from the weather might be just the right thing. So... here's a new piece of pan background art from The JUNGLE BOOK I digitally re-assembled this evening. And as usual with long pan B/Gs, I've split it up so you can have a closer look. I hope this brings some warmth to your winter's night...

From the JUNGLE BOOK scene where Mowgli searches for a better look at the little girl, here is the re-created pan background. Gorgeous! The lush tropical landscape is beautifully executed. Note: the three large leaves in the right foreground (which were effecively animated using the multiplane camera layers).

THE JUNGLE BOOK (1967) The Coming of the Dawn Patrol

When the thundering steps of the elephant "Dawn Patrol" awaken Mowgli, a sleepy Bagheera remains perched in the tree, while the ever-curious "man-cub" makes his way to get a better look. Here's the entire re-created pan B/G. The cloudy skyline appears to be a distant shore shrouded in a morning haze. Only the artist could tell us for sure. But it is certainly another wonderful and intriguing piece of background art from this landmark Disney film.
