Three different looks of one beautiful scene... a long shot, tighter shot, and a re-created pan close-up of this amazing background from the BAIA number in THREE CABALLEROS.

A few animated artifacts (dewdrops and sparkles) remain on the re-created pan. But the recreated pan reveals the scope of artistry by Disney even amidst the challenges of the 1940s.

POPPINS: The Carousel

Here is art easily overlooked in MARY POPPINS, the beautiful backgrounds in the carousel scene.

The first image is the carousel set piece, with the first glimpse of the lush greenery paintings. Incredible!

The middle image is a nearly complete digital recreation. I couldn't quite complete it it as the carousel horse head never completely leaves the lower center. I don't usually show incomplete artwork here, but I made an exception in this case because it was so close to complete, and the painting is so incredibly rich.

The third image is (I think) a masterpiece of background painting. The use of color, light and texture are all dazzling.

Two Chips And A Miss

Snow White: Trees and Leaves

When the witch appears with the poison apple, little birds emerge from a nearby tree to attack the old crone. Snow White innocently shoos them away.

Here are two versions of the tree and leaves. The first digitally eliminates the birds, revealing a lovely palette of autumn colors..

The second, as we've never seen it, recreates a pan shot (background) as the birds fly back to the tree.

Truly lovely artwork, typical of the care and attention to detail that went into all aspects of SNOW WHITE.
