Art is very subjective. But of all the gorgeous artwork in SLEEPING BEAUTY, this particular B/G is one of my very favorites. I love every lovely detail; the backdrop, the jeweled treasures, and the look of the jewels themselves (the play of light on them). I especially like the design of the spoon. Here is the re-ceated B/G with a close-up of the jeweled utinsel. Spoonful of sugar, anyone? (Oops, that's another movie altogether!)
The rich colors and detail are amazing! One could argue that Sleeping Beauty's backgrounds may have "stolen the show" over the animation, but I disagree.

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're doing this blog (I'm going back through all the posts now). I really love B/G animation--I was so disappointed to hear that there's an exhibition in Japan of artwork by Kazuo Oga (the artist who did most of Studio Ghibli's gorgoeus backgrounds), since its impossible for me to go to currently.
