What THE ARISTOCATS lacked in story and character appeal was balanced in some measure by beautiful xerographic background designs. Here is a dandy - the butler Edgar's room, filled with sumptuous detail, richly embellished.
The Aristocats was the first movie I ever saw at the cinema, and it has a special meaning for me just because of that. This background is just glorious - and when all you can remember of the movie you saw when you were tiny is the lovely fluffy Duchess and Tom O'Mally's grin, it's lovely to see detail and feel all those feelings of wonderment come flooding back.
I love the detail in this ink and color wash background. Interestingly, the director of the Triplettes of Bellevue said that the look of his film's backgrounds were highly influenced by the 'xerographic' era of Disney animation.
i loved the Aristocats in every way! I dont think they lacked in story or character appeal. Every time i watch it i get a warm feeling :) my fave as a kid, and always will be. AND THE BACKGROUNDS. OH MY GOD. they always fascinated me. I would pause the movie to stare in the horizon.
I think Aristocats was a success in every aspect: story, characters and art. It is a wonderful film, certainly one of Disney's best in my opinion. Thanks for posting these great images.
