A short hiatus...

Hello, gang...

Just wanted to let you know I am having some very minor surgery on Monday. It is an outpatient procedure, no big deal at all and nothing to worry about, but I will take a couple of days off to recuperate.

So, check back at the end of the the week... I'll be back on track by then!

HOOKED BEAR (1956)

Is it possible to be a cartoon star and obscure at the same time? The answer is yes, if your name is "Humphrey The Bear!" These re-created pan B/Gs are striking and fun. BTW, in the second, that's Ranger Woodlore's boat headed into the scene. Is your fishing license up to date??!!!

MICKEY DOWN UNDER part two

These recreated backgrounds are fascinating to me, as they show how very different the B/G art varies in one film. scene to scene. The first is quite simple. The second (pan) B/G is more elaborate. And the last falls in between; I particularly like the palm tree horizon which predates similar JUNGLE BOOK art by two decades!

MICKEY DOWN UNDER (1947)

Credited background Artist: Art Landy

SYMPHONY HOUR (1942)

I love the art deco elements in the building design, and the amazing perspective in the shot of the grand stage. BRAVO!

Thank you for your comments!

Thanks, readers, for taking time to write!

Just to clarify, I'm not looking for "you're so wonderful" messages!

Your comments on the artwork are the thing.

I appreciate you - and the artwork is created for us all to share and enjoy.

Thanks again for taking time to share your comments.

Your Comments are so Important!

Hello all!

I thought it might be appropriate to let you know how important your comments are to me! Digitally re-creating these backgrounds is a labor of love. Animation is my passion (outside my career in music).

So, please, when you stop by and have a look, leave a comment. Short or detailed, your response lets me know you've stopped by!

To be really honest, it's a bit disappointing when days go by without a word from anyone!

So, write something, already! You can share information about the films and the artists, request backgrounds from particular films, or just say hello.

I appreciate your support and looking forward to hearing from you!

POPEYE MEETS SINBAD: Opening Titles

Today I finally opened the Popeye DVD set which debuted some weeks ago. It's re-awakened my admiration for Fleischer Studios. These two paintings are the opening title art, minus the text, of course. Check out the texture of the waves and the color palette of the sky. Magnificent!

SNOW WHITE Backgrounds

It takes some time to digitally remove the cute woodland creatures from these SNOW WHITE backgrounds. (There's rarely a B/G that's empty, even for a frame!) But the end result is worth the work. These lovely B/Gs are, as we've often discussed, little masterpieces.

BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS:
Beautiful Briny Sea

These lovely backgrounds are re-created from BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS. The song "Beautiful Briny Sea" was a leftover from Mary Poppins, which adapted beautifully to this film.

SNOW WHITE: Into The Woods

PINOCCHIO: Gepetto's Front Door

GOOFY: Father's Weekend Off (1953)

Here are three re-created backgrounds from "Father's Weekend Off" (1953). Once again, we see the quality evident even in Disney's short subjects. This artwork is attributed artist Al Dempster.
